Nakata "Knack" Whittle is a cartoonist based out of northern Maryland, about 2 hours from their beloved Big Apple (NYC). Everything Knack makes is queer. They enjoy horror, urban fantasy, historical fiction with a twist, and sci-fi stories. Bonus points if these genres are studded with queer themes, unique world-building, complicated interpersonal relationships, and found family. In their spare time they can be found babying their cat, playing DnD, and playing around with vocal synths.
Currently, Knack is illustrating volumes #4 (The Haunted House) and #6 (The New Girl) of the NYT Bestselling series Sweet Valley Twins for Penguin Random House, and illustrating a story for the Discord Comics anthology Feast and Greed. They will be available for additional work in the third quarter of 2024.
Whittle has worked as assistant to folks at many different imprints, all of which can be found >>here<<. They most recently completed work as the flat colorist on Ink Girls illustrated by Sylvia Bi (Greenwillow), and on The Adventure Zone: The Suffering Game illustrated by Carey Pietsch (First Second). As part of the SVA Cartooning Class of 2021, Whittle received the 2020 Will Eisner Sequential Art Scholarship, the highest awarded to the Cartooning Major. They also received the Rhodes Family Award upon graduation. |

PSA: Knack's given first name Nakata is a combination of Nancy and Kate, and is pronounced to rhyme with "cicada." Being referred to as either Nakata or Knack is fine :]
